Mumbai's popular Film City, built in 1977, was renamed as Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in 2001 in memory of India's first producer-director Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered as father of the Indian film industry. Maharashtra's then CM, Vilasrao Deshmukh launched the renaming ceremony along with Bollywood's legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar.
